In 1358, a peasant uprising in France called Jacquerie (the grass-shoe people association) broke out. It was caused in part by the losses of rural people due to their war and hatred against the local nobility. Led by Guillaume Kale (Carle or Cale), they were joined by forces in other villages and started in the Beauvais region in northern Paris, they had committed cruel acts against the nobles and destroying many castles in the area.
